Extending your Heat Pump’s Life
A heat pump typically has a lifespan of 7-10 years, but with proper care and maintenance, it’s possible to extend its longevity. Here are a few tips to help keep your heat pump in excellent working condition.
Maintain reasonable temperature – The general temperature for a heated swimming pool is a max of 28 degrees which allows you to comfortably swim all year round. Setting the temperature to an optimal level allows the heat pump to operate efficiently for a reasonable amount of time each day. When the temperature is set higher, the heat pump has to run for longer periods, leading to increased wear and tear, which can ultimately shorten its lifespan.
Use a Pool Cover – When a swimming pool cover is used, the water temperature stays warmer for longer which then means the heat pump doesn’t have to run for as long. When there is no pool cover, heat escapes and the heat pump will need to run for longer periods of time to keep up to the desired set temperature. This can shorten the lifespan.
Regular servicing – A regular service of your heat pump is crucial for longevity as it helps prevent potential issues from escalating into more serious problems. We recommend to all of our customers that they have their heat pump serviced every 12 months to keep on top of things. Our technician checks over the entire system thoroughly, including inspecting the system externally and internally, checking all pipe work, brackets and seals. They also go over your pool pump and skimmer to make sure this is clean and clear for ideal water flow. Extending your Heat Pump’s Life is beneficial in many aspects.
Prevent Corrosion – Here on the Gold Coast, many customers live close to the ocean, which means the air contains a high level of salt. Unfortunately, this can lead to corrosion if not properly maintained. The best way to prevent this is by hosing down the heat pump with fresh water every week or so to wash away any salt buildup. Regular cleaning can help prevent rust and corrosion, extending the life of the unit.
