To know how to keep your pool warm and maintain and heat your pool, it is important that you understand how and where it is gaining and losing heat naturally. This is different for every customer but here we will cover the most common heat loss issues we come across and the most cost-effective ways to overcome this before investing in pool heating. It makes sense to ensure your pool is maintaining its heat the very best it can before paying to heat it.

Water Features

These are a great addition to a pool and can transform your pool into a backyard oasis. However, they are a huge heat loss factor too. We would suggest reducing the running time on it. Maybe save it for when you’re entertaining.

Shaded Pools

Whilst this is fantastic in the summer, it prevents the pool from getting any heat from the sun, even if you go for pool heating we would often upsize the solution for pools that have full or large shade. Trimming back hedges and trees is a great way to get more sun exposure on the surface area.

High Wind & Water Front Properties

These often suffer from more wind exposure. We suggest a pool cover or liquid pool cover to help with this common issue. Imagine a hot drink and blowing over it to cool it down… this is the same for a pool. Wind is the main enemy of a heated pool as it dramatically accelerates the cooling process.

Large paddle areas in a pool

Brilliant for children, but a huge heat loss factor. Back to the hot drink example: Imagine your hot drink, and spilling some into a saucer.. That shallow area is going to lose the heat at a much quicker rate than the drink in the deeper cup!

In short the loss of heat from your swimming pool occurs almost entirely on the water surface. Reducing the shade and wind exposure and covering the surface area with a pool cover or even liquid pool cover will all help to conserve heat.

When our staff conduct site visits for pool heating options, all of these factors are taken into consideration, so we can establish the right pool heating system for you based on your requirements.
